Types of Funds
Below is a list of the types of funds that you may establish with the United Way of South Hampton Roads Foundation.
Unrestricted Funds
Established to allow the United Way of South Hampton Roads and its affiliates to address local human needs responsibly and flexibly.
Philanthropic Funds
Donor advises on fund distribution within and outside of the United Way of South Hampton Roads family.
Annual Campaign Endowment
Donor commits to the creation of an Annual Campaign Endowment which will bear the donor’s name in perpetuity. Each year the United Way Foundation will distribute to the Annual Campaign a percentage of the total value of the fund as determined by the payout policy of the Foundation trustees for a given year.

Field of Interest Funds
Established for broader social purposes that serve the needs of the people in South Hampton Roads.

1. "Success by Six" Child Development Fund
Supports services, programs and expansion of projects for our children to advance their safety, health, and education. These include day care, transportation, scholarships, and training for child care providers.
2. "Excellence by Eighteen" Youth Development and Mentorship Fund
Directs essential resources toward the development of our most at-risk youth by providing summer jobs and training, alternative eduaction, recreational activities, positive role models, and character building programs that assist youth to become responsible and productive adults.
3. Family Preservation and Abuse Prevention Fund
Supports programs to restore the integrity of families through crisis intervention, mediation, and counseling. Provides refuge and shelter for abused women and children as well as childcare and parenting skills training which enables a return to healthy family life.
4. Frail and Indigent Elderly Care Fund
Ensures the highest quality of life for our elderly by affording preventative services in their homes, meals, and socialization opportunities to a person in need.
5. Emergency Shelter and Assistance Fund
Identifies emergency needs and increases self-sufficiency of families after emergencies and disasters by providing shelter, clothing, meals, and first aid. Houshold items and job supplies are made available to allow for a return to work.
6. Comprehensive Human Services Fund
Focuses on the most pressing community needs and commits to a permanent investment in human services in the South Hampton Roads community.
Designated Funds
Established for a specific program or project of an agency.
Restricted Funds
Established for a specific agency.
Certified Agency Funds
Established through affiliation arrangements.
