Emergency
Shelter and Assistance Fund
Disaster can strike quickly and without warning. But when it does, our community can rest assured that The United Way of South Hampton Roads will be there to react quickly and assume a leadership role in helping to identify emergency-caused needs and the development of a regional plan. The goal of the Emergency Shelter and Assistance Fund is to encourage agencies to develop creative approaches to assisting people and families in need of shelter and assistance in emergencies. It provides them with a refuge and the necessities to return to a normal living situation as soon as possible, increasing their self-sufficiency. This fund will assist our community and our families; to cope with disaster and help them find the resources available to meet their disaster-caused needs. The fund will seek to work with disaster and emergency service agencies and others to provide shelter, meals and first aid. This may also include household items and clothing and job supplies needed to allow families to return to work. |
